Report: Blackpool 1 Leeds 1

Thomas Ince's stunning strike rewarded Blackpool for a much improved second half, earning them their first point during the month of December.

Pool trailed at the break after Lee Peltier's looping header put Leeds ahead, and The Seasiders struggled to respond.

After the break however Paul Ince's men improved, and son Thomas' Christmas cracker was enough to share the spoils.

It was the winger's first goal since October, and wasn't tarnished by Kirk Broadfoot's late red card for Pool.

Striker Michael Chopra was handed a rare start, as Gary MacKenzie returned from injury.

The opening minutes said a lot about the intense atmosphere to come, but little about the game, as both sides struggled to create any chances.

Although The Seasiders had started the brighter, they were hit on the break devastatingly by Leeds for the opening goal.

Michael Tongue's deep cross was met with a looping header from Peltier, which avoided Matt Gilks' outstretched arm to give the visitors a 24th minute lead.

Pool looked for the response, and after Chopra's effort was blocked, Broadfoot should have done better with his header which flew over the bar.

The hosts continued to press, but found Leeds too hard to break down in the first half, leaving the pitch knowing they had a task on their hands.

Half Time: Blackpool 0-1 Leeds

After the interval Pool were much improved and nearly levelled, first when Jack Robinson had a drive deflected wide, before Broadfoot again blazed over.

Blackpool's on loan left back then fired narrowly over the bar, looking for his first goal of the season.

Chopra was next to snatch at a chance, shooting at Paddy Kenny, before Nathan Delfouneso replaced Dan Gosling.

Nobody could argue that an equaliser wasn't coming, and it duly arrived through a stupendous goal from Ince.

The winger picked up on a loose ball on the edge of the box, and fired into the top corner to level matters with 25 minutes left on the clock.

With their tails up, Pool were almost caught napping soon after. After Broadfoot brought down Ross McCormack, Leeds' top scorer fired a free-kick off the wall and over.

The momentum was with the hosts however, who saw Ince bend another effort narrowly wide.

With a minute remaining however, Blackpool lost Broadfoot for the second time this month, when he received a straight red card for a late lunge.

Thankfully the dismissal didn't change the outcome, and Pool were rewarded for a much improved second half with their first point of the Christmas period.
