Millwall struck three times and cruised past Blackpool to leave Neil McDonald’s side in the League One relegation zone.
Lee Gregory put The Lions in front, capitalising on some hesitant Pool defending, before Jed Wallace’s free-kick made it two.
The Seasiders improved after the break and Brad Potts came close, but their hopes were killed off once Hayden White was dismissed for two yellow cards.
That left the host to wrap up victory late on through Steve Morison’s penalty to leave Pool in the thick of the battle to avoid the drop.
Blackpool had actually made a bright start and Uche Ikpeazu glanced wide a glaring opportunity seconds in, however at the other end Millwall showed their clinical nature which has them competing at the right end of the table.
A long throw into the box by Carlos Edwards was allowed to bounce and land on the head of The Lions’ leading marksman Gregory and he was able to guide his header out of Colin Doyle’s reach.
The striker almost made it two on 18 minutes, but glanced his header off target this time. However, it wasn’t long until they increased their lead, as Wallace’s free-kick flew through the Blackpool wall on its way in.
Pool were struggling to have any sort of impact at The Den and Morison headed the next chance over the bar. It was to get worse for The Seasiders on the stroke of half-time, as Clark Robertson was forced off injured, being replaced by Emmerson Boyce.
The final chance of the half fell to the visitors, and saw Jack Redshaw denied by a goalline clearance from Mark Beevers.
Half-Time: Millwall 2 Blackpool 0
Blackpool improved in possession after the break and Potts thundered a shot just wide of the mark. Soon after McDonald replaced John Herron with Mark Cullen, in a bid to fight their way back into the game.
Ikpeazu was next to waste a decent opening, blazing over the bar when he had Cullen and Danny Philliksirk well-placed. The Lions came closer with their own attempt soon after as Morison curled an effort onto Doyle’s right-hand post.
It was Pool shading the second period however, and Potts had a half-volley turned over, before Tom Aldred’s header flew off target. However, any hope they had of getting back in the game was extinguished on 75 minutes, as White tripped his man and became Pool’s third dismissal in as many games.
The visitors’ final change saw Martin Paterson replaced Ikpeazu and they did find the back of the net soon after, only for the offside flag to raise once Cullen tapped in after Redshaw’s shot was parried.
That gave Millwall the impetus to wrap up the victory, after Aldred handled in the area and Morison confidently tucked away his kick from 12 yards. That would be the final moment of note, as Pool were beaten at The Den.
