Gary Bowyer was full of praise for another Blackpool performance full of grit and determination, as the team recorded a 3-1 win at Newport County.
Goals from Bright Osayi-Samuel (2) and Mark Cullen (pen) secured a big three points on a difficult playing surface at Rodney Parade, as The Seasiders stood up to a real physical test.
Speaking post-match, here’s what the manager had to say…
We were terrific today from start to finish. They’d come on the back of a decent run and fired the crowd up, but we went and withstood that and got on the front foot early doors. It was a fantastic effort from Bright to score the first and then to get the second was brilliant from the way that we played it. By half-time we should have been out of sight, Mark Cullen’s had two wonderful efforts and led the line brilliantly again on his own.
It was a bit of a soft goal to give away and then we’re under the cosh a little bit because they lump it into your box, whether it’s a free-kick or a throw. To a man, I thought we were terrific today. The goal at the end is phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal. I thought I was watching Usain Bolt play for us.
Late drama in added time.
It’s a wonderful save from Deano and the lads are throwing their bodies in front of the ball and blocking shots. Then you have to see Bright’s goal to believe it, it’s an outstanding goal, it really is. It was like watching Usain Bolt at the Olympics, it was that good. He chases his own pass, sprints past the lads and still has the energy and strength to then show magnificent composure. It’s a wonderful goal.
Osayi-Samuel and Danns make the most of opportunity to start.
We’ve spoken about that all season and the importance of it. We suffered the blow of Pottsy missing and Andy Taylor pulled out this morning so we had to deal with that. Fair play to them.
That really came to the fore when they got the goal back. It got a bit nervy at the end but we’ve withstood it and had players blocking shots and clearing away from the line. It was terrific.
