Sam Slocombe hopes Blackpool’s performance against Championship side Barnsley will give them confidence to take into the League Two campaign.
The Seasiders put in an impressive showing against The Tykes and had chances to win the cup tie outright at Bloomfield Road.
“League Two makes games more of a fight than football game, but Saturday was an opportunity to go out and get some confidence,” said Slocombe.
“We got our foot on the ball, which playing the new formation allowed us to do, and come the last minute of the game anyone could have won it.”
Although they had chances to win it, Blackpool were grateful to Slocombe, who made a brilliant save late on to deny Conor Hourihane.
“If you’re going to have a successful season goalkeepers throughout it want the opportunity to keep you in the cup, or get you three points.
“It doesn’t happen very often, so when you get the opportunity it’s always nice to take it, and credit to Adam (Davies) at the other end, he made some smart saves,” he added.
