Chris Basham left Bloomfield Road delighted this afternoon, after a Man of the Match performance in Blackpool’s 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic.
The midfielder took the accolades after a fine team performance was rewarded thanks to Tom Ince’s penalty.
Basham, who impressed throughout, was employed in the holding role in the hard fought victory.
“I’m buzzing with the win after the recent draws. We’ve made home a fortress, we’re undefeated here all season and the three points are massive,” said Basham.
“I was happy with my performance, I had to sit in today and protect the back four. The main thing is the win, but we could have won by more. They could have scored too though, it was that kind of game.
“I’ve played in lots of different positions so far this season, at the end of the day I’m happy to be in the starting 11 and the Gaffer is keeping me in there which is the main thing.”
During an eventful second half, Wigan hit the woodwork twice, whilst Blackpool also had their chances in the latter stages.
Before the 3pm matches kicked off Blackpool sat fifth in the table, after a sixth victory and a fifth clean sheet.
“They’ve hit the bar twice, but Steve Davies came on and had one cleared off the line.
“Thankfully the chances at the end didn’t haunt us because we looked solid and they didn’t really break us down. The defence were brilliant; keeping clean sheets is like a goal to them.
“We wanted to show how good we are and to express ourselves. It was an early kick-off on TV and we had to get ourselves going.
“They came down from the Premier League last season and kept the core of their team, so it is a great win,” Basham said.
