New signing Matt Derbyshire is delighted at the prospect of playing Championship football for Blackpool after signing on-loan from Nottingham Forest earlier today.
The 26-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him at Bloomfield Road for the rest of the season and can't wait to get started.
"I'm excited to be here. It's local for me and I'm excited to get on and start playing," said Derbyshire.
"I'm from Blackburn but it wasn't a massive thing (moving back to Lancashire). Blackpool is a great club so I was delighted to get the opportunity to come and play for such a good club."
Derbyshire has already spent time out on-loan this season, playing 18 league games with Oldham Athletic, where he worked under an old Blackburn team-mate.
"I went on-loan to Oldham to get games and I obviously knew the gaffer there - Paul Dickov, who I played with at Blackburn and that was one of the reasons why I went there. Now I'm fit and ready to go."
The former Blackburn man is available to Steve Thompson for tomorrow's trip to Wolves, should the caretaker manager choose to select him, and is looking forward to getting his first minutes under his belt whenever that chance arises.
"It's a massive chance for myself. I thank Steve Thompson for bringing me here. I'm looking forward to playing for Blackpool and helping the team.
"I'm someone who likes to get in behind defenders and also a bit of a fox-in-the-box.
"I thrive off crosses. The more crosses there are, the more chances you are going to get and the more opportunities you are going to get to score. For me getting on the pitch and getting those chances is brilliant."
