Nathan Eccleston is looking to grasp an opportunity with both hands as he embarks on a 'massive' pre-season.
The 22-year-old striker is determined is make the forthcoming campaign his own, after a disappointing first season at Bloomfield Road.
The ex-Liverpool man made just five league appearances for The Seasiders last time out, with three of those coming under the management of Paul Ince.
Big team performances, managerial changes and niggly injuries kept him out of the side, but he now hopes to turn his fortunes around.
"When I first came we were at the top of the league and I couldn't get into the team because we were playing so well," he told the official website. "Then we had the changes, I went on loan to get my fitness up and came back with an injury. I was a little bit down after that because it had been a stop-start season.
"At the end of last season, touch wood, I got rid of my injuries and I managed to stay fit for the last couple of games. I had a chat with the gaffer and it's a massive pre-season for me, and a big year ahead.
"I'm really focused now, I'm eating properly and I'm doing all the extras in training and after training to keep my body right. Hopefully I can stay clear of injury."
Following a couple of departures from the club, a starting place up-front is up for grabs and the forthcoming pre-season friendlies are ideal for Eccleston to display his qualities.
"A lot of the Blackpool coaching staff, media and fans are still waiting to see me play," he admitted. "It's a massive pre-season for me and the lack of striking options that we do have at the minute is an opportunity for me to go out there and stake a claim. If I want to be that number one striker or winger then I guess it's there for the taking."
For the moment the striker continues to work on his fitness out in Portugal, with the demands put on the body as expected.
"It's been exactly what you expect from pre-season, it's been hard work and a lot harder in the heat. The heat takes it out of you but it's been good so far. We've had our holidays now so it's good to be back with the lads and working hard," he added.
Nathan will be taking to the club's official Twitter account on Friday for a live 30-minute Q&A with fans. The striker will be Tweeting at around 12.45pm so send in your questions now with #AskEccy at the end of them.
