Look back at recent meetings between the two clubs

Recent meetings with Watford have wielded a fair amount of success for Blackpool, which will make pleasant reading for supporters going into the weekend.

The Hornets have gone since 2009 without a victory over Pool, a run which spans seven matches.

Blackpool continued their fine early season form with a victory at Bloomfield Road in August, whilst three points at Vicarage Road last season were the first under Paul Ince and proved crucial.

We take a look back at the recent clashes with Watford ahead of Saturday’s game.

Blackpool 1 Watford 0 – 31/8/2013

Fortune certainly favoured Blackpool in August, as a clean sheet from Matt Gilks proved absolutely pivotal.

The goalkeeper had saved Troy Deeney’s penalty, and saw Marco Faraoni and Diego Fabbrini both strike his post.

All that was left was for substitute Thomas Ince to cap a fine run with a finish across Manuel Almunia nine minutes from time.

Watford 1 Blackpool 2 – 9/3/13

A massive result at both ends of the table, Gary MacKenzie’s first goal for Blackpool aided the survival bid, whilst it damaged Watford’s promotion plans.

Cristian Battocchio had chipped the hosts into a half-time lead, before Ince finished off a fine move by converting from close range.

And MacKenzie ensured manager Ince would have his first three points, when he bundled home from close range.

Blackpool 2 Watford 2 – 24/11/12

It was a tale of two halves at Bloomfield Road in 2012, as Blackpool fought back to earn a point.

Watford had been good value for their 2-0 lead, given to them by Ikechi Anya and Deeney.

But a spirited Blackpool fought back, and after Kevin Phillips had reduced the deficit, Isaiah Osbourne levelled for the hosts.

Watford 0 Blackpool 2 – 6/4/12

Two Stephen Dobbie strikes cemented Blackpool’s play-off position during a Good Friday clash at Vicarage Road in 2012.

Dobbie’s finish followed a stunning mazy run, as the Swansea loanee prodded past Tomasz Kuszczak.

The Manchester United goalkeeper, on loan at Watford, then brought down Ince in the area, allowing Dobbie to seal the victory from 12 yards.

Blackpool 0 Watford 0 – 17/12/11

Blackpool were left frustrated by the woodwork, as they were denied three points back in 2011.

Kevin Phillips saw his effort cannon off the post, before Lomana LuaLua suffered a similar fate as the game ended goalless.
