Trinity Hospice Organising Fun Run

It’s one of Blackpool’s biggest sporting events – and not just for the really sporty! Whether you sprint, jog or stroll, you can enter the Blackpool 10k, which this year is in aid of Trinity Hospice.

After 30 years, Beaverbooks has chosen to hand responsibility for organising the annual run to the hospice because of Trinity’s excellent track record in staging big events and because of Beaverbrooks’ ongoing support for Trinity Hospice and Brian House.

It’s a huge boost for Trinity and Fundraising Manager Linzi Young commented: “It’s a big responsibility and we feel very honoured to have been handed the baton by Beaverbrooks. The 10k has become a fixture in the local fundraising calendar and attracts thousands of participants from across the region. It will give us a real boost and everyone at Trinity is really looking forward to making it a big success.”

The 10k is very much a fun run, open to all abilities, but this year for the first time - and to the delight of the more serious athletes - new electronic timing technology will be used, giving accurate individual finish times.

Another change for 2013 is that the lower age limit has been reduced to 11 years, if accompanied by an adult participant. The decision to drop the age restriction was made after enquiries from schools and families disappointed that their younger runners couldn’t take part.

The 10k sets off from the Hilton Hotel at 11am on Sunday 12 May and the route goes down the Promenade to the Pleasure Beach, where it turns for the long home straight. Every runner who completes the course will receive a medal and the full results list will be in the Blackpool Gazette on Monday 13 May.

Thomas Ince and Matt Phillips recently highlighted their support for Trinity Hospice and the Fun Run, while Steve Thompson is set to participate in the event once again.

Want to be part of it? Get your entry in quickly and easily by visiting www.beaverbrooksfunrun.org.uk or phone the hospice on 01253 359355. Entry costs £12 for adults and £9 for those aged 11-15. Remember, you can help boost the fundraising total by raising sponsorship money for Trinity and Brian House too – the easiest way is by creating a JustGiving page: www.justgiving.co,/trinitycare and selecting Beaverbrooks 10k.
