Wigan Athletic 1 Blackpool Ladies 4

The Ladies travelled to the Soccerdome at Wigan to face the Latics and claimed all three points to maintain their status as league leaders. The Seasiders sealed the victory in the first half through a Lauren Oatley hat-trick and a Danni Cross strike.

After Mac Barlow had headed wide and Cross fired over, it was Oatley who opened the scoring, finishing a ball played to her by Cross. Oatley notched her second in the twelfth minute with a fine finish past the advancing Wigan keeper. Cross then made it 3-0 to Pool, after cleverly finding space for herself to finish in the bottom corner. On 26 minutes Barlow’s cross was poked home by Oatley for her hat trick and the Ladies fourth.

Wigan’s first corner of the game was cleared but they did find the net just before the interval. A lack of communication was capitalised upon by the left winger, who shot past Findlay. The goal gave the home side confidence but a subsequent effort went wide of the target and the score remained 4-1 at the half time whistle.

Into the second period a Cross effort went wide with Wigan also going close. Cross then timed her run to perfection latching onto a Barlow ball but she shot over. A subsequent Oldfield strike was well saved by the Wigan keeper who then gathered the loose ball bravely in front of Oatley.

Substitutes Kilner, Bradshaw & Dillon replaced Oldfield & goal scorers Oatley & Cross with Bradshaw first involvement being to fire a shot wide. Ambrose then produced an effort on target with a subsequent attempt going wide.
