Defender On Burnley Run Out
Tony McMahon was pleased to get a good 90 minutes under his belt in Blackpool's pre-season friendly against Lancashire rivals Burnley.
The defender skippered the side at Bloomfield Road and felt that the test against the newly-promoted outfit was ideal, despite the visitors securing a 1-0 victory.
"It was 90 minutes and it was hard work. It was a game that was much needed for minutes that we haven't had of late.
"They're a good team who were obviously promoted last year so we knew it was going to be tough. We tried to win but you could probably see that we were still short on fitness. We'll dig in, stick together and go next week."
The game saw a number of new faces take to the field as the players look to gel ahead of the season opener against Forest next Saturday.
"A few of them did alright," McMahon continued. "We're all new really because some of them have only been in the building a few days so it's about getting to know everyone. We've now got a full week next week until the start of the season."
McMahon has been impressed by José Riga's philosophy to date and feels the supporters will have seen glimpses of that during the game.
"You could see little bits. The crowd got a bit excited at times with the way that the manager wants to play but it does take time. We all know that we're short on players so we need to get a few more in next week," he added.
