Blackpool were comprehensively beaten by Derby County at Pride Park as goals from John Brayford, Conor Sammon and two from Theo Robinson downed The Seasiders.
Thomas Ince's penalty just after the break made it 2-1 and gave Blackpool a fighting chance, before goals from Sammon and Robinson meant Steve Thompson's men left empty handed.
Caretaker manager Thompson made one change from the draw with Brighton, bringing Ludovic Sylvestre in for the injured Isaiah Osbourne (knee).
The home side started well and it was the pacy Robinson who had the first attempt on goal, hitting a shot hard and low from inside the area, which Matt Gilks saved well.
Several minutes later Derby took the lead and it was that man Robinson who found space and from ten yards out swept home Paul Coutts' low cross from the right.
GOAL: DERBY 1-0 Blackpool
It was a deserved lead for Nigel Clough's men as they enjoyed plenty of possession early on with the two forwards - Robinson and Sammon both looking dangerous.
Just before the 20-minute mark Gary Taylor-Fletcher had Blackpool's first chance as he got on the end of Matt Phillips' low cross but his effort was deflected away for a corner.
Steve Thompson's side began to enjoy some more of the ball and after some good build up play down the right Sylvestre let fly from 25 yards out but his goal-bound shot was well blocked.
As Blackpool looked to get back into the game The Rams doubled their lead through their right-back Brayford, who swept home Coutts' right wing cross after a well worked corner.
The delivery was almost a replica of his cross for Derby's first goal of the afternoon.
GOAL: DERBY 2-0 Blackpool
Matt Phillips was Pool's brighest spark going forward in the first period but his long range effort appeared a little bit too ambitious as it went sailing over Adam Legzdins goal.
Will Hughes almost grabbed what would have been a rather fortuitous third just before the interval as his deflected shot wrong footed Gilks, but thankfully drifted wide of the far post.
HALF-TIME: DERBY 2-0 BLACKPOOL
Blackpool were given the opportunity to get right back into the game at the start of second-half after Matt Phillips' shot was blocked by the hand of Richard Keogh.
Thomas Ince stepped up and calmly stroked the ball home into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
GOAL: Derby 2-1 BLACKPOOL
Minutes later and The Seasiders could have levelled but Taylor-Fletcher's low shot was blocked by a great saving challenge from James O'Connor.
As The Seasiders looked to be growing into the game they fell further behind when Theo Robinson capitalised on a loose ball to get beyond ALex Baptiste and poke the ball through the legs of Gilks.
GOAL: DERBY 3-1 Blackpool
The goal settled the home side down and they increased their advantage further after 65 minutes when Conor Sammon tapped home another low cross from Coutts.
The goal meant a hat-trick of assists for the winger.
GOAL: DERBY 4-1 Blackpool
Chris Basham's last ditch tackle a few minutes from time prevented The Rams from adding to their lead on what was a bitterly frustrating afternoon for The Seasiders.
FULL-TIME: DERBY 4-1 BLACKPOOL
