Riga: We Need More Experience

Manager Reflects On Brentford Loss

José Riga said his current Blackpool squad is missing a little experience following the 2-1 defeat to Brentford at Bloomfield Road.

The manager is searching for know-how in his ranks as he looks to blend youthful exuberance and a host of new signings into a solid team structure.

"I know that these kind of players can be helped by players with a lot of experience," he said. "We are still looking for having a good spine, not only with quality but with the right balance."

The Seasiders took the lead on the night against a newly-promoted Brentford side, yet couldn't hold out to secure that first win of the season.

"We scored the first goal and I think what's important in our situation is to be able to keep some clean sheets because we know that we cannot be so productive in this moment," Riga admitted.

"I'm very frustrated because the first goal we conceded is the same as the other games. We need to not concede these stupid goals. The second goal is just a mistake with a lack of experience from a player. If we learn from these mistakes then we can improve.

"I can say nothing about the will, it's just that most of them are still not fit and we are just looking for the right balance in the team."

Determined to put on a display for the Blackpool fans, Riga senses that things are developing on the pitch.

"We want to give a lot because we play at home and we've seen something good every time in all the games without any results. But The Championship is a long competition," he added.
