Club Aids Local Appeal

There’s plenty of team work off the pitch at the moment, with The Seasiders joining forces with Blackpool Council for the Give A Little, Help A Lot campaign.

Almost a thousand local children enjoyed a happier Christmas last year, thanks to people donating presents which were given to underprivileged children across the town.

The appeal has started again this year, with the club donating pairs of tickets to the cause and putting collection points in place at the Bloomfield Road club shop and Houndshill club shop.

On behalf of the campaign, Cllr Fred Jackson said: “The football club have donated before and we’re always really grateful for their help. Many people, myself included, are big fans so it’s great to see them play an active role in the community.

“Football tickets are excellent experiences for children who wouldn’t necessarily be able to attend the matches.

“We’re now nearing the last week of the campaign, so are encouraging people to get their donations in to make sure that we can help as many children in the town as possible.”

Blackpool midfielder Angel Martinez, who has previously donated clothes to the local church, was on hand to help support the campaign. Being a father himself, he knows the importance of a good Christmas.

“When you have family it makes Christmas much more special, but it’s sad to think that some don’t get a present," he said.

“I have a chance to help Blackpool children and it’s a privilege.”

People are being asked to donate toys, books or new clothing to the campaign before Monday 9 December.

People can donate at: Blackpool FC Club Shops, Municipal Buildings, Progress House, City Learning Centre, Enterprise Centre on Lytham Road, Solaris Centre and the Gazette offices.
