A late winner from Dom Telford put Blackpool within six points of securing the Youth Alliance’s North West league title as they beat second-placed Oldham Athletic 4-3 on Saturday.
The striker tapped into an empty net on 87 minutes to round-off a remarkable match at Squires Gate Training Ground, which saw The Latics fight back from three goals down.
Conor Ready’s double had given Pool the edge in vicious hail, before a Henry Cameron header moved them three goals in front.
Oldham pulled one back through Kyle Hardman almost instantly, though, before Michael Brewster made it 3-2 a minute after half-time.
Tony Philliskirk’s side were then awarded a penalty which Connor Hunt saved from Jordan Bove, although Hardman poked in a dramatic equaliser with ten minutes left.
However, the young Seasiders nicked all three points at the end as Telford tapped in to move them eight points clear at the top of the table with three games to go.
Oldham have a game in hand on Richie Kyle’s side and could reduce the deficit to five points, but Pool are now in pole position to clinch the title.
