How The Managers Saw It

Posted on: Sat 13 Feb 2010

IAN HOLLOWAY

"I tried to say the right things before the game. I think it helped the boys.

"But the script was here for them to beat us and go above us and to be honest I didn't think they looked like doing it.

"We were missing Charlie Adam and I had to change the shape and structure of it.

"I was confident enough to do that and I thought my back four defended how they should do.

"My midfield was a little bit different with DJ (Campbell) there, they didn't get to grips with him."

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day, I came here, the team got a police escort, I brought my wife and daughters and I didn't feel threatened. I walked around the ground with them.

"Northern people like their football and these two clubs epitomise that. Today I'm very proud of what we're trying to do and our supporters."

DARREN FERGUSON

"It was one of those games where you have to take your chances and in the end Danny Welbeck should score," he said.

"It's a massive chance, he went clean through and should have scored. He had one in the first half as well."

Derbies are always tense affairs and it can take a little bit of magic to win them or a mistake from opposition.

"The dressing room is very quiet because they're all disappointed, we wanted to win the game.

"To a man we worked our socks off and there are some very tired legs out there."
