Gary Taylor-Fletcher's injury-time winner secured yet another breathless comeback as Blackpool saw off Coventry City 2-1.

The hosts dominated the opening period but failed to make their territorial dominance count with Matt Phillips going close on two occasions.

The visitors then took the lead on 59 minutes when the Pool defence failed to clear their lines, allowing Conor Thomas to poke home the softest of goals.

Pressure reigned down on the Coventry goal and the introductions of Kevin Phillips and Roman Bednar unsettled the opposition back four.

An equaliser arrived on 87 minutes when Bednar crossed for Phillips to tap home and Taylor-Fletcher sealed the points with a 94th minute winner, to send Blackpool into the play-off places.

After making nine changes at the weekend a more familiar line-up took to the field with Lomana Lua-Lua making a welcome return from a hamstring injury.

There was also room on the bench for new signing Roman Bednar and though much of the nation's eyes were glued to the transfer deadline frenzy, tangerine eyes were firmly on events at Bloomfield Road.

There will be few nights as bitter as ths one but Blackpool showed enough endeavour in the first-half to warm the hardy souls who had ventured outdoors.

With 10 minutes on the clock Thomas saw his shot blocked in the area and the Seasiders responded by counter-attacking at break-neck speed with Matt Phillips seeing his side-footed effort tipped wide by Joe Murphy.

The visitors seemed happy to allow Blackpool long periods of possession and that allowed Lua-Lua to see plenty of the ball and begin to unlock the Coventry door.

On 30 minutes the forward gathered possession 20 yards from goal and produced the deftest of through balls to Phillips, but just as his toe poke looked to have taken the ball around Murphy, the keeper reached out a hand to claw the ball away.

Still the Sky Blues looked bereft of attacking intent but with just a couple of minutes left of the opening period striker Alex Nimely - on loan from Manchester City - missed a wonderful chance when he shot straight at Matt Gilks, 10 yards out.

The Seasiders had one last chance of their own towards the end of the half with Phillips again cutting in from the left and bending a rasping shot just over the crossbar.

Patience it seemed would be key as Blackpool looked to break the deadlock but Coventry, who went into the game without an away win all season, began to threaten with Gary McSheffrey forcing Gilks into a fantastic save on 48 minutes.

But just minutes later there was nothing the keeper could do when his back four failed to clear a ball in the box, allowing Thomas to toe poke into the back of the net with Gilks stationary.

Ian Holloway reacted by bringing on Saturday's hero Phillips and Fleck and the former's presence certainly appeared to unnerve the Coventry back four, as Blackpool went in search of another late comeback.

Shortly after Fleck was presented with an opening when the ball fell to the Scotsman inside the area, but he could only lash his volley wide.

A passing approach had failed to yield an equaliser and the Tangerines displayed their versatility by switching to a more direct style, with Ian Evatt pushing into attack and Roman Bednar introduced as cross after cross reigned into the Coventry box.

And a minute after Bednar's introduction the striker collected the ball in the area and slid the ball into the path of former West Brom striker partner Phillips, who tapped home to set up a grandstand finish.

Only seconds after that and Gilks produced a wonder save to keep out Sammy Clingan's fine long-distance effort, but there was almost an inevitability about Blackpool's winner with just seconds remaining.

Ninety-four minutes had been played when Matty Phillips lashed a cross-come-shot into the path of Taylor-Fletcher who side-footed the ball into the net, inside the six-yard box, to seal yet another late win for his side.
