The visitors began proceedings attacking the North Stand and it was the Seasiders who had the first chance of the game with Ian Morris firing just over from 18-yards on five minutes, seconds later Jason Wilcox picked up a yellow card following a rash challenge on Lewis Guy, members of the assembled press Wilcox was lucky to receive just a yellow as the former England man appeared to stamp on the Rovers wide man.
Lee Jones was forced to punch clear on 12 minutes, a minute later the visitors forced a corner, fortunately for Pool Heffernan's stooping header from McIndoe's corner was well wide.
Lewis Guy almost broke the deadlock on the quarter hour when he made the most of some awful defending from Tony Butler, but as the Pool back four looked to recover Guy decided against going for goal and did fantastic dive inside the area, following the next break in play referee Mr Joslin rightly showed him the yellow card and I suspect a harsh word from his manager Dave Penney.
Seconds later it was the Seasiders who took the lead and it was from the unlikely source of TONY BUTLER, the big centre back rose the highest to nod home Marc Joseph's long thrown.
The game was turned on it's head on 25 minutes when referee Mr Joslin penalised the Pool skipper Peter Clarke for a handball inside the area, MICHAEL McINDOE stepped up to send Lee Jones and put the visitors back on level terms.
John Murphy was beaten to a great cross from Rory Prendergast by Doncaster Rovers 'keeper Alan Blayney, less than a minute later Keigan Parker curled straight at Blayney as Pool continued to dominate.
Mr Joslin decided against showing Lewis Guy a second yellow card on 32 minutes to the derision of the home support, Guy's cynical challenge on Peter Clarke left the Pool skipper requiring treatment from Phil Horner.
The merry whistle blower continued to make mistakes, this time his decision to pull back play rather than play advantage surely cost Pool a second after Keigan Parker nodded past his marker to find himself one on one with the 'keeper the referee stopped play to award the Seasiders a free kick after a hand ball.
John Murphy's teasing ball across the Doncaster goal line eluded everyone whilst Neil Wood's long range effort came very close to restoring Pool's lead.
Peter Clarke saw a header from Neil Wood's teasing free kick fly just over on 38 minutes.
At the other end Lee Jones did well to get down to his left to save Heffernan's snap shot.
Five minutes before the break Neil Wood forced Blayney to dive to his left to take a curling free kick from 25-yards.

Pool's lead was restored three minutes before the break when IAN MORRIS nodded home Rory Prendergast's teasing free kick after Keigan Parker's persistence had earned Pool a free kick on the byeline.

Less than sixty seconds later Pool made it 3-1, KEIGAN PARKER who was out to impress the watching Scotland manager Walter Smith, the diminuitve Scot volleying home after a great ball from John Murphy
HALF TIME Blackpool 3 Doncaster 1
The interval saw the visitors make a change with man mountain Leo Fortune-West replacing Paul Heffernan.
The Seasiders continued to impress, the wing play from Rory Prendergast and Ian Morris caused the visitors defence all sorts of problems and you sensed it was a matter of time before the fourth came and it duly arrived on 54 minutes. More good work from Rory Prendergast caused the Rovers defence problems, his free kick was half cleared to Tony Butler who played a sublime through ball to Keigan Parker, the livewire Scot squared through the crowded six yard box to PETER CLARKE who made no mistake from close range.
Parker almost made it 5-1 when his pile driver was fumbled by Blayney fortunately for the visitors the Ulsterman recovered to claim the ball.
Ian Morris cross cum shot was almost met at the far post by John Murphy on 59 minutes.
Michael McIndoe flashed a shot just wide on 63 minutes to remind Pool of his danger, but it was the Seasiders that kept pressing, Ian Morris saw a teasing corner well taken by Blayney.
Pool made their first change of the evening when Danny Warrender replaced Marc Joseph with 15 minutes remaining, Joseph looked to have tweaked a muscle and the change looked to be precautionary.
Ross McCormack fired over with ten minutes, a second later Pool handed Zjazi Kuqi his first taste of League action, the Big Finn stepping up to replace Keigan Parker.
Four minutes later Kuqi almost made it five with his first touch, the man on loan from Birmingham latched onto a great through ball from Neil Wood.
Pool's last change of the evening came with five minutes remaining when Lewis Gobern replaced the once again outstanding Ian Morris.
In stoppage time Doncaster snatched a late goal through Ross McCormack after the Pool defence went to sleep, but it was too little too late for the visitors and the three points remained on the Fylde Coast.
Pool: Jones, Joseph (Warrender 75), Clarke, Butler, Wilcox, Morris (Gobern 85), Bean, Wood, Prendergast, Murphy, Parker (Kuqi 80)
