Two goals from Gary Taylor-Fletcher and one each from Stephen McPhee, Paul Dickov and Kaspars Gorkss ensured that Pool put Charlton to the sword at Bloomfield.

In a scintillating afternoon of football, the Seasiders were to banish the memories of the last meeting between the sides this season.

Simon Grayson opted for a new strike partnership for the game with Stephen McPhee preferred to Ben Burgess in attack. The return of Stephen Crainey at left-back and a quick recovery from Ian Evatt strengthened the defensive options for the manager, while Kaspars Gorkss returned from suspension.

The first ten minutes were reasonably quiet both on and off the field with chances few and far between. It was the visitors who maybe could, and indeed should have taken the lead in the ninth minute but for a save from Paul Rachubka. Lee Cook threaded the ball through the middle for former Burnley man Andy Gray to chase but he was thwarted by Paul Rachubka when clear one-on-one.

The Seasiders looked to make a mark of their own moments later after Paul Dickov was held back, forcing referee Colin Webster to award a free-kick. Stephen Crainey was the man to deliver the ball in but Kaspars Gorkss came inches away from connecting.

Lee Cook continued to be one of the more positive outlets for the Addicks as he dribbled into the Pool box but luckily Ian Evatt was there to put the ball out for a corner.

The combination of Paul Dickov, Stephen McPhee and Wes Hoolahan seemed to be causing the visitors endless problems on the counter. It was all three who were to be involved in giving Pool the lead on 15 minutes.

Stephen McPhee made a burst from the middle of the pitch before playing a neat one-two with Paul Dickov. After Dickie played the ball back, McPhee put the ball through to Wes on the left, before the Irishman forced a parrying save from Nicky Weaver. The rebound fell to Claus Jorgensen, who smashed the ball against the defender before STEPHEN MCPHEE drilled the ball into the back of the net from the edge of the area with a little help off the post (15).

Luke Varney came close to equalising for Charlton within minutes from the restart. A free-kick punched out by Paul Rachubka fell to the former Crewe man but his looping strike went just wide of the right post.

The front three of Dickov, McPhee and Hoolahan continued to light up the game with McPhee this time seeing his header deflect wide for a corner. The resulting ball fell to Paul Dickov who controlled the ball with his chest and struck on the turn. It took a great save from Dickov's ex-City colleague Nicky Weaver to deny him but KASPARS GORKSS was on hand to fire home on the left (25).

BLACKPOOL 2 CHARLTON 0

The interchange of the furthest three players for the Seasiders continued to produce some great football for Pool but it was Charlton who were to grab a lifeline.

Just four minutes after the Seasiders made it 2-0, Charlton left-back Grant Basey put the ball across the box for DARREN AMBROSE to score (29).

Before supporters could even take note of the goal, Charlton equalised. That man again, DARREN AMBROSE reacted quickest to a throw-in headed out of the box to hit the ball in the top corner on the half-volley (30).

BLACKPOOL 2 CHARLTON 2

Shaun Barker and Ian Evatt had the best chances to put Pool back in front before half-time but both failed to find the target.

HALF TIME - BLACKPOOL 2 CHARLTON 2

Charlton were the first side to make a change for the second-half with Alan Pardew introducing Chris Iwelumo for Andy Gray.

The game restarted at the pace the first ended. Inside ten minutes of the restart, Nicky Weaver sent a long throw down field with Luke Varney picking up the ball wide and running free into the box but Stephen Crainey made a superb last-ditch tackle to concede the corner.

A quick free-kick from Stephen McPhee, after the player himself was fouled, could have brought about a third goal for the Seasiders. Another one-two with Paul Dickov saw the former Hull man force a great outstretched save from Nicky Weaver to deny Pool the lead.

Zheng Zhi broke from the resulting corner but his effort went wide of the right. Charlton were left to rue a missed opportunity when the Seasiders finally made it three.

Paul Dickov created an opening for himself on the right to shoot, and despite Weaver blocking his effort, GARY TAYLOR-FLETCHER was in the right position to tap the ball in (59).

BLACKPOOL 3 CHARLTON 2

In a quickfire couple of minutes, Pool did what Charlton did in the first-half and made it two goals in a matter of moments. PAUL DICKOV'S dogged determination to chase down what looked a lost pass saw him notch a fourth, with the ball trickling past Nicky Weaver (62).

BLACKPOOL 4 CHARLTON 2

Bloomfield Road was beginning to party, but GARY TAYLOR-FLECTHER looked to put the icing on the cake. The former Huddersfield man tried an audacious cross come chip that fell onto the corner of the crossbar, and to the amazement of many, the ball went in to make it five (69).

BLACKPOOL 5 CHARLTON 2

In what was becoming an amazing game, Charlton pulled yet another goal back. JONATHAN FORTUNE found space in the box and brought the ball down on the turn and fired the ball past Paul Rachubka (74).

BLACKPOOL 5 CHARLTON 3

Without even having time to take a break from typing, Stephen McPhee burst clear down the right hand side of the pitch and looked certain to make it six. Unfortunately for the 9,000 strong crowd his strike was dragged just wide.

Andy Morrell and Stuart Green had come onto the field for the Seasiders in place of Taylor-Fletcher and Dickov as Pool looked to see the game out.

Darren Ambrose had a speculative effort for the visitors with five minutes remaining before Wes Hoolahan left the field for Ben Burgess.

Jose Semedo came within a leg of Stephen Crainey from setting up a tense finish at Bloomfield after his strike was blocked by the Scot on the line before Rachubka pounced on the ball. Matt Holland forced a great stop form Rachubka in injury time but this was to be the Seasiders' day.

After a sensational afternoon's football with some great counter attacking football from the likes of Hoolahan, Dickov and McPhee, Pool made it another three points with a victory that banished memories of the 4-1 defeat at the Valley last month.
