An 86th minute strike by Steve Kabba ensured the Seasiders picked up their first home three points of the season against Barnsley.

The on-loan Watford forward hit an unstoppable strike from the edge of the area to finally end the club's recent winless record against the Tykes.

In what was a pretty action less match, the game really sprung to life in the final 15 minutes as Simon Grayson went with three strikers upfront. The closing stages also saw two Pool shots unbelievably cleared off the line.

Simon Grayson resisted the temptation to restore Keith Southern to the starting line-up following the completion of his three-match suspension and instead kept the team unchanged from the victory at Southampton.

The unchanged team selection appeared to be working as the side carried on where they left off at St Mary's with the same air of confidence and zip about their play.

The Seasiders had two opportunities to score inside the first five minutes. Steve Kabba hit a strike straight at Barnsley keeper Luke Steele before Adam Hammill raced inside the left moments later but his effort sailed high and wide.

Despite the domination of possession chances remained few and far between. The Seasiders were nearly punished for not making the most of time on the ball in the 25th minute when Jon Macken forced a point-blank stop from Paul Rachubka. Gary Taylor-Fletcher tried to find an immediate response by making a mazy run and forcing a save low down from Luke Steele.

After that the game seemed to fizzle out somewhat as both teams looked to regroup and come out the better in the second-half.

HALF-TIME SCORE - BLACKPOOL 0 BARNSLEY 0

Barnsley were forced into making a change for the start of the second-half as Iain Hume was unable to continue after failing to shake off the effects of a first-half challenge. Kayode Odejayi replaced him.

With the lack of action continuing, Simon Davey made his intentions to spur Barnsley into life clear by making another substitution on 55. El Haimour leaving the field for Gary Teale.

A lack of creativity in the middle of the park forced Simon Grayson into making his own tactical changes in order to get a winner. The manager opted to make a double substitution, replacing Claus Jorgensen with Keith Southern and David Fox with David Vaughan.

A neat bit of play from Adam Hammill played Vaughan in over the top to race clear but his effort flashed wide on the bounce.

As the game went on Barnsley continued to feel aggrieved by a number of refereeing decisions. A penalty shout for handball by Shaun Barker, which was waved away, seemed to be their main grievance.

The crowd began to lift in the 73rd minute after an unbelievable block on the line by Barnsley defender Stephen Foster. Steve Kabba worked his way into the box to square the ball back to Keith Southern to shoot. The midfielder nearly marked his return to the team with what looked sure to be a goal only for Foster to block the ball on the line, although he didn't look like he knew much about it.

With the lack of chances and goals continuing, the stage was set for Daniel Nardiello to make his debut against his former club. Simon Grayson chose to go with three strikers and withdrew Adam Hammill on 78.

It nearly worked. A long ball wide from David Vaughan was firstly met by Kabba before his back heel teed up Nardiello to score. Unfortunately for the striker it was to be another effort cleared off the line, this time by Robert Kozluk.

Just when once again the luck didn't seem to be with the Seasiders up stepped STEVE KABBA. The striker picked up the ball just outside the penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable effort into the bottom left hand corner (86).

BLACKPOOL 1 BARNSLEY 0

It was nearly followed by a quick-fire second goal but Luke Steele just managed to thwart Daniel Nardiello from a debut goal.
