A 42nd minute strike from David Norris was enough to give Ipswich all three points at Bloomfield Road.
In what was a game of very few clear cut chances the former Plymouth midfielder reacted quickest to a Richard Naylor header that was cleared off the line to strike the ball into the back of the net.
The Seasiders had started the game in bright fashion and maybe should have scored with less than two minutes on the clock. A free-kick won by Alan Gow presented Rob Edwards with an early opportunity to give the Seasiders the lead. Claus Jorgensen found the skipper unmarked at the back-post but his header flew just over the bar.
Despite the early opportunity for Blackpool, Ipswich could themselves have gone one-up moments later but David Norris fired just wide.
It was clear that both sides had set up to play with some neat intricate passing but neither team managed to find that killer ball to result in a goal.
On their first half showing alone the Tractor Boys were by far the best passing team to have visited Bloomfield Road so far this season. The only thing they were lacking was a final ball to deliver a goalscoring chance - a bit like the first-half against QPR last weekend.
The Seasiders weren't to be outdone in playing some great counter-attacking football with the movement of Alan Gow proving pivotal. It was the man of the moment who flicked the ball into the path of David Vaughan to feed Keith Southern down the left. Southern returned the favour to the Welshman and he whipped in a teasing ball that was cleared for a corner. Great move.
The visitors did eventually take the lead in the 42nd minute through DAVID NORRIS. Claus Jorgensen hooked a Richard Naylor header from a corner off the line before the ball fell to the former Plymouth midfielder to rifle the ball home.
BLACKPOOL 0 IPSWICH 1
An immediate response could not be found and the Seasiders went in at half-time one goal down.
HALF TIME SCORE - BLACKPOOL 0 IPSWICH 1
The second half began with the Seasiders making a substitution, Adam Hammill coming on for David Vaughan.
Two minutes in to the half and some of the Blackpool fans thought that Pool had equalised. A free-kick taken by Alan Gow found Rob Edwards at the back-post once again and he headed the ball in to the back of the net. Unfortunately for Pool the linesman was flagging for offside.
The home side continued to up the tempo, with a mazy dribble by Alan Gow turning one defender after another inside out. The Scotsman just lost control of the ball when clear for goal but the ball fell to strike partner Ben Burgess who fired just wide with a rasping effort.
Ipswich forward Jon Walters looked to extend the Tractors Boys lead on the counter but he was thwarted by Paul Rachubka after cutting inside from the left. Shaun Barker then headed the ball into the keeper's hands at the other end from a corner.
Pool were slowly starting to find their feet in the game with Alan Gow working a neat one-two with Ben Burgess before blazing over.
A tackle from behind by Keith Southern on Jon Walters saw him booked before Owen Garven struck the resulting free-kick over the bar.
With 25 minutes of play remaining Simon Grayson decided to go for broke and introduced Steve Kabba for Claus Jorgensen. The move meant that Gow, Burgess and Kabba were all on the field with Gow filling in down the right.
No sign of a real chance was coming for the side so the manager opted to make another tactical substitution. Mo Camara was withdrawn for David Fox and Shaun Barker, Rob Edwards and Ian Evatt former a back three for the final 12 minutes.
Keith Southern was the next Blackpool player to try and get the equaliser the Seasiders craved but it was another chance that flew over the bar. At the other end Ipswich sub Jon Stead hit the woodwork with a 19-yard effort, lobbing Paul Rachubka.
It was then Blackpool's turn to hit the woodwork. An exquisite ball from David Fox caught Ipswich cold and Gary Taylor-Fletcher glanced his header at the bar.
In the end it was the best of the late chances that Pool had, meaning that Ipswich held on for all three points.
