Danny Shittu On His Time With Pool
AFTER the final whistle against Watford on Sunday, many of the supporters who stayed behind to applaud the team would have noticed one of the Watford players hold aloft a Blackpool scarf as he left the field.
The player in question was Danny Shittu, who spent a few months on-loan with the Seasiders in February 2001 - and it's safe to say he still has a soft spot for the club.
Before the game at the weekend, Danny spoke about his time with the club in the Official Matchday Programme. For those who didn't pick up a copy of BFC on Sunday, here is what he had to say about his time with the Seasiders.
"It's definitely a special moment and something that I won't forget for a very, very long time. Me playing and spending those couple of months at Blackpool and achieving promotion with them, it meant a lot," Shittu said.
"The supporters were great, the players were amazing and Steve McMahon gave me a chance to play league football, which I really owe him a lot to, because at that time not a lot of people were taking that chance and Steve McMahon took the chance on me to involve me in a team and to end up getting promotion.

"It was just a very special few months that I spent there. I really connected with the players, I really connected with the fans and, in some ways, I really hold it in my heart, one of the clubs I still hold in my heart in some way that I love going back to and I still hold really highly," he revealed.
"It was my first chance, and people usually judge you on what you do, so I came to Blackpool and, if it had have gone bad, I obviously don't think I would be where I am now. I was just very lucky to be in the right place where the players support you, the manager supports you - and the supporters were great. They helped me achieve my personal aim, which was to prove to (Alan) Curbishley and everybody else that I'm a good defender.
"While I was there I scored goals and I defended really well, so for me to leave Blackpool was sad. I spent a lot of months there and I loved it there. For me to leave when I had to leave was very, very hard to do. It's definitely something that I won't forget and a place that I still hold real highly," he added.
