We Speak To Joe Martin
Joe Martin trained as a fully fledged Blackpool player for the first time on Friday morning and, prior to heading out to training, we caught up with the England youth international and we asked Joe whether it was a tough decision to leave the Capital and move to the North West, "It wasn't really a difficult decision to make," said Martin, "it was always going to be hard to get into the first team at Tottenham, but hopefully coming to Blackpool will give me an opportunity to play first team football at a good club."
Joe's decision to join the Seasiders may have come as a surprise to some at White Hart Lane, especially as the versatile 19-year-old had been offered a new deal with with the Premiership giants and prefering to join the Tangerines on a permanent basis, "They (Spurs) offered me a new deal but I wasn't really too keen on staying there," said Joe. "The opportunities of first team football are limited and I want to get some experience and play regularly in the first team, so it was a bit of a no brainer for me."
Joe is no stranger to Bloomfield Road having spent the end of last season on loan, an experience the Dagenham born youngster describes as "brilliant", "The six weeks I spent here on loan was brilliant," said Joe. "The training and being around the first team as well as being in the squad on a match day and playing against Watford is nothing like playing in the reserves and you realise how much it means to people ."
Asked about the prospect of pre-season training Joe said, "Hopefully it will be hard and I sure it will be challenging, I need to get fit and sharp for the new season, hopefully I will do well in the pre-season games and stake a claim for a place in the team come 9th August when we play Bristol City."
Finally we asked Joe for his thoughts on the Pool supporters, "Although it isn't the biggest capacity in the division, the supporters created a fantastic atmosphere home and away last season and I was surprised by the amount of noise they made, I am sure they will do that again this season and play their part in helping us build on last season."
