'POOL 'keeper MATTHEW GILKS today completed an Emergency Loan move to League Two promotion chasers Shrewsbury Town.
Owing to the form of Paul Rachubka the 26-year-old stopper has made just one Carling Cup start for the Seasiders since arriving from Norwich in the summer and the former Rochdale man jumped at the chance to link up with his previous manager and former Pool favourite Paul Simpson at the Pro Star Stadium, however, the Tangerines have inserted a 24 hour recall clause.
On the decision to let Gilks out on loan Pool boss Simon Grayson told the official website, "Gilksy has been first class for us and has worked his socks off in training on a daily basis, he is desperate to play some first team football and the loan move will give him a chance to do exactly that, we only have one reserve game before Christmas which is on the 17th December, whereas Shrewsbury have half a dozen, so he will be sharp should we need him."
On the move to the Pro Star Stadium Gilks told the Shews official website, "I signed for Blackpool in the summer and my chances have been limited there so far. I spoke to the manager a few weeks ago and he said I could go on loan, I've had a few enquiries from clubs but then Shrewsbury came in and the deals come off and I'm glad to be here."
I played nearly 200 games at Rochdale and then moved to Norwich and had a great year there even though I didn't get a game. For an old manager like Paul Simpson to come back in for you shows that I must have done something right the first time we worked together. If you stay on good terms with people when they leave then that can help, I speak to a few of the lads here and know there's a good bunch."
Gilks is expected to make his Shrews debut on Saturday when they travel to Lincoln City.
Elsewhere Pool midfielder Mathew Kay has extended his loan with Fylde Coast neighbours Fleetwood Town, Kay will remain with the Cod Army until Boxing Day, however, Pool have also inserted a 24 hour recall into the player's agreement..
