The Latest From Ollie

Rumours of who will be Ian Holloway's first signing for the club increase but the Pool boss insists he is in no rush to add anyone to his squad, "I want to assess every player and what they can bring to the squad," the Pool boss told www.blackpoolfc.co.uk, "I know that we need to bring in players to add to the squad, but if anyone thinks I am going to bringing load of players in the next week or two they need to hang on as I want to bring the right player in and not sign someone for the sake of it."

In typical 'Ollie' fashion the boss compared the current situation to a Tommy Cooper sketch, "There is an old Tommy Cooper joke which reminds me of this time of year," laughed Holloway, "you know the one when a guy goes to the doctors and tells the doctor that lots and lots of good looking women keep throwing themselves at him and that he keeps putting his arm out and pushing them away , the doctor asks the patient what he wants him to do and the patient says cut off my arm, well at the moment I have got lots of agents throwing players at me but I am pushing them back, now I don't want anyone to cut my arm off, but I do want to do is make sure the players I bring to this club are the right players, every single player I sign I want to affect the squad and I need to assess exactly what I need and where I am going I know the positions we are short on but I want a certain type of player and character"

Holloway also praised chairman Karl Oyston for the way he runs the club, "We all know that money is tight and that the chairman is tight, I know that, and I don't mind saying that! But seriously I have a budget to work with and I was told that before I took the job and thank god the chairman is tight otherwise we could be in the trouble a lot of other clubs are in and thankfully we are not which is a credit to him, I know we need to bring players in but I am not going to be rushed, I have to know that they are the right sort of player for the club, we need a certain character of player that can fit into what is already a good dressing room with good honest characters and that is what I want, but the calls to managers, agents and players are non-stop but I won't be rushed into signing people and like I said I can't wait to get back on the grass on 1st July and working with the players."

Asked if he was surprised about the lack of quality currently available Holloway said, "I don't think to use the phrase like of quality is right, I can't believe how expensive these players have got, I have said no to one or two, because I genuinely don't believe they are good value for money and it has been so easy in the past for clubs to go and waste a lot of money on players who don't contribute to the season and it has been so easy for clubs to get the moneythrough banks and getting into debt, but that with the credit crunch, the banks aren't giving the clubs the support they once did and it would be so easy to make a mistake on signing someone and over pay someone and I am not going to do that and I am glad to be at club that are willing support me on that, my last job was at a club that would sign players on silly money and long contracts and ultimately that cost them their place in the Championship and they have had to clear their decks and got back up but a lot of clubs who go down don't instantly bounce back up. I owe it to the chairman, the board of directors and the more importantly the supporters that we have to make sure we get value for money from the players we sign and until I think someone is right for us in every sense of the word, I won't be jumping in."
