He was a life-long Sheffield Wednesday fan and all the Wednesday players will don black armbands as a mark of respect.

"Blackpool are very close to the play-offs and I expect them to be up there for the remainder of the season because of the way they play and the good players they have got at the club," he said.

The manager told the press yesterday that the Seasiders have missed his injection of pace since his absence due to the African Nations Cup.

Five players who lined up for that Boxing Day fixture - Shaun Barker, Kyel Reid, David Fox, Liam Dickinson and Alan Gow - are no longer with the club. Alex Baptiste and David Vaughan were unused substitutes last time out.

9.51 (SH) - The team are now en-route to Sheffield ahead of the game at Hillsborough this evening. Brett Ormerod, Charlie Adam, Hameur Bouazza, Billy Clarke, Danny Coid, Ishmel Demontagnac, Barry Bannan and Neal Eardley all miss the trip.
