TIVERTON TOWN 0 BLACKPOOL 2

Posted on: Sat 17 Jul 2010

Goals from Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Rob Edwards saw Blackpool beat Tiverton Town 2-0 in Martyn Rogers' testimonial.

Pre-season didn't get off to the best start for the Seasiders though as Billy Clarke was forced off inside two minutes with a knee injury. Ishmel Demontagnac was his replacement.

Keith Southern headed Blackpool's first chance of the half wide following some good play down the wing from Brett Ormerod. Gary Taylor-Fletcher was the next player to have an effort but his effort flew over the bar. The same player then headed narrowly wide from a perfectly-weighted Stephen Crainey ball in.

The Seasiders, who were displaying a new strip and sponsor, Wonga.com, dominated the opening stages of possession and nearly took the lead via Brett Ormerod but Tiverton goalkeeper Steve Book pulled off a fine save with his legs.

Jamie Mudge forced Matt Gilks in to his first save of the match at the other end when he attemped a chip. Ishmel Demontagnac then shot straight at Book when Pool looked to counter.

The Seasiders opened the scoring via a fortunate deflection off GARY TAYLOR-FLETCHER after Ishmel Demontagnac had drilled an effort in his direction. The striker did well to re-adjust his position and divert the ball in to the top corner.

Ishmel Demontagnac could have made it two before half-time after some great work down the right by Neal Eardley but his resulting volley flashed wide. A great save from Steve Book once again then prevented Charlie Adam with a rasping free-kick. The Scottish midfielder then had a speculative effort from the halfway line that nearly brought back memories of a certain goal in a reserve game.

The Seasiders made six changes at the interval, Paul Rachubka, Rob Edwards, Danny Coid, Stephen Husband, trialist Malaury Martin and Jason Euell came on for Matt Gilks, Alex Baptiste, Stephen Crainey, Keith Southern, David Vaughan and Brett Ormerod.

Tiverton's substitute 'keeper Chris Wright denied Gary Taylor-Fletcher early on in the second-half after the striker raced clear following a great ball over the top by Stephen Husband.

Ian Evatt and Charlie Adam played a good 20 minutes of the second-half before being replaced by Ashley Eastham and Louis Almond, with the striker's impact almost immediate as he forced another fine save from Chris Wright.

Rob Edwards made it 2-0 after 70 minutes when he rose highest at the back post to head an Ishmel Demontagnac corner just over the line prior to a Tiverton defender clearing.

Stephen Husband came off after the goal and was replaced by Alex Baptiste who got a second spell out on the field. Gary Taylor-Fletcher then ended his evening out on the field to allow a trialist to take to the field.

Ishmel Demontagnac should have made it three with seven minutes remaining after a great through-ball from Louis Almond but the winger fired wide when one-on-one with the 'keeper.
