A strong Blackpool side including trialists Malaury Martin and Francis Jeffers managed to overcome League Two side Accrington Stanley.
Martin was named man of the match as Brett Ormerod and Keith Southern netted for the Seasiders.
Pool enjoyed their first chance within the opening three minutes, a smart move saw Southern intelligently beat the offside trap but he mis-hit his shot.
Not one to be deterred, the Geordie brushed himself down well and less than a minute later he was involved in the opening goal.
Charlie Adam turned his man well in midfield, playing the ball across to Southern who could have shot.
Unselfishly though, he found Brett Ormerod in space to his right who slotted home in the far corner (3).
BLACKPOOL 1-0 ACCRINGTON STANLEY
Stanley responded well and made the Seasiders work hard in midfield.
And it wasn't long before they found themselves on the scoresheet. After a quick counter attack, Accrington won themselves a free-kick 30 yards from goal and Jimmy Ryan fired a beautiful strike into the top corner (12).
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway gave the strike the applause it deserved.
BLACKPOOL 1-1 ACCRINGTON STANLEY
Five minutes later and Blackpool midfielder Adam nearly scored his own pearler but Accrington 'keeper Ian Dubavin managed to get to the ball.
Both sets of players dealt well with what was a heavy pitch. A solid day of rain continued throughout the game.
The Seasiders nearly found themselves falling behind when Luke Joyce's curled effort beat Paul Rachubka, only to shave the post and stray wide.
Trialist Francis Jeffers was the next to have a chance for Blackpool. The former Everton man bustled his way into the box and used his strength to beat the 'keeper.
However, the referee decided that there was a foul in the process.
After the injury to Billy Clarke in the game against Tiverton last Friday, the last thing the side needs is another injury.
But hearts were in mouths when a high kick from Stanley midfielder Ray Putteril left Adam in agony on the floor. The Scotsman hobbled to his feet though, much to the relief of coaching staff and fans alike.
The same pair clashed again after 37 minutes with the referee giving Putteril his final warning.
With five minutes of the half remaining Stanley's Sean McConville found himself in space on the left but could only drag his shot wide.
Some wild challenges marred what was a quite an entertaining first half. A high challenge on Ormerod resulted in some strong words and a brief scuffle.
It was that man Adam who showed the game's first real Premier League flash when he danced his way through the Stanley defenders on the stroke of half-time.
However, he couldn't find a man in the box and the run came to nothing.
HALF-TIME SCORE: BLACKPOOL 1-1 ACCRINGTON STANLEY
As expected, Ollie made a few changes at half-time. Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Neal Eardley, Stephen Crainey, David Vaughan and Ishmel Demontagnac replaced Brett Ormerod, Danny Coid, Francis Jeffers, Charlie Adam and Ian Evatt.
Within a minute of the restart, a miss kick from Accrington 'keeper Dunbavin gave Jason Euell his first chance of the game.
After weighing up his shot, he delicately chipped his effort over the goalie but just as it was about to nestle in the back of the net, an Accrington defender got his head in the way to knock it out for a corner.
The Seasiders regained their lead less than a minute later though. Keith Southern (47) directed his header powerfully past the stranded Accrington 'keeper.
BLACKPOOL 2-1 ACCRINGTON STANLEY
The Tangerines began to show real confidence and ten minutes Demontagnac crossed to fellow substitute Taylor-Fletcher but he couldn't direct his header goalwards.
The Wembley hero had another chance not long later.
After some neat work by Euell and Vaughan, Taylor-Fletcher found himself in space on the edge of the box but his curling effort sailed just over the bar.
Trialist Martin showed flair throughout and did so again when he played Euell through but the striker just couldn't find the corner when one on one with the 'keeper and his effort was palmed away.
Both sides had further chances to add to the scoring. Southern and Taylor-Fletcher came close for the Seasiders before another powerful Accrington free-kick was fumbled away by Rachubka.
The Seasiders managed to hang on to their lead though and edged their way to victory.
