HALSEY TAKES CHARGE

Posted on: Mon 09 Aug 2010

Mark Halsey will make his return to officiating in the Barclays Premier League by taking charge of Blackpool's opener at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Bolton-based referee, originally from Hertfordshire, had to take leave from the game following Everton's opening fixture against Arsenal in August last season after being diagnosed with lymphoma.

Now, after a number of months in remission following intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy, he is set to take the whistle again in the top flight.

Halsey made his initial return to league football in April for the fixture between Rotherham and Port Vale.
