DW RETURN FOR BRETT

Posted on: Tue 10 Aug 2010

Although this Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener against Wigan Athletic has been switched to the DW Stadium, striker Brett Ormerod will still be on familiar territory.

Ormerod was at loan at the Latics towards the end of the club's 2005 promotion campaign, playing six times and scoring twice - both goals coming in a vital away victory at Leicester City.

And although, the stadium and fans are the same, Ormerod won't recognise any of the players.

"I had some good months and there were some great lads there," he explained. "It's a different club now though but I'm looking forward to going back and playing.

"I enjoyed my time at Wigan. I went there on loan in the February and I got called back before the last game against Reading. I jumped on the bandwagon of promotion like I did with Forest a few years ago too.

"At the time when I went back to Southampton, I was really looking to sign there (at Wigan) but it didn't work out. Obviously Southampton got relegated and the deal fell through from Southampton's side. I really enjoyed it there."

The striker has also had his fair share of games against Wigan, netting a hat-trick against them for the Seasiders back in 2001 (pictured below).

Ormerod has been a key feature in Blackpool's pre-season schedule and was part of the build up to Jason Euell's goal against Hibernian on Saturday.

Ian Evatt has said that the Premier League experience of players like Euell and Ormerod will be valuable in the Premier League and the former Southampton forward is looking forward to being back in the top flight.

Ormerod added: "My last game in the Premiership was probably 2005 so it's been five years and obviously it's moved on. The rich clubs have got even richer, there are more big names coming into the Premier League, more world class players.

"I think you'll probably find you're up against a lot more with the World Cup. So it's a mixture of nerves but a bit of excitement as well but I think that's the general feeling of the fans and the whole club."
