Blackpool can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Derby County for Luke Varney to join the club on loan, with an option to make the deal permanent.

The 27-year-old former Crewe and Charlton striker, who spent last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, links up with the Seasiders until the end of the season.

"He's a great lad, he's got some pace and I think he'll play really well in a 4-3-3," manager Ian Holloway said. "I think he'll just slot straight in to our system and hopefully I can get him going again.

"He's a fantastic lad off the field and even at Sheffield Wednesday last season he got 11 goals for them."

Varney goes straight into the Blackpool squad for the Barclays Premier League home game against Fulham tomorrow.
