It's not just on the field where the Blackpool players will be making an impact this season.
The Seasiders have teamed up with NHS Blackpool and Blackpool Council to launch an innovative new programme, 'Altogether Now - a legacy for Blackpool'.
Spearheaded by NHS Blackpool, the programme is one of the first of its kind to have been recognised as part of the London 2012 Inspire Programme.
During the coming weeks, the public will start to see 'Tackle a Tangerine' branding around the town and be made aware of opportunities they can get involved in to make some positive improvements to their lifestyle.
Each of Blackpool FC's home games will also focus on a different health priority. Films with related health messages will be played before each game and during half-time, with two pages of information appearing in the matchday programme.
Former Blackpool and England right-back Jimmy Armfield, current Pool manager Ian Holloway, Lancashire cricketer Steven Croft and British Paralympic athlete Shelly Woods are all health ambassadors for the campaign, which is centred around four Tangerine Targets - Mental Health & Wellbeing, Physical Activity, Childhood Health and Lifestyle. The Blackpool FC players will be health champions for eight underpinned health priorities.
These are:
· Alcohol Abuse
· Cancer
· Childhood Obesity
· Heart Disease
· Mental Health
· Sexual Health
· Smoking
· Substance Misuse
Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, has given his full backing to the campaign, describing it as 'a really important initiative'.
"I am delighted to give my personal support to 'Altogether Now' - a legacy for Blackpool.
"I think this is a really important initiative. It is encouraging to see so many different organisations working together for the benefit of the local community.
"This programme is all about encouraging and supporting everybody - irrespective of age, race, gender or disability - to become more physically active and, in so doing, improve their health and wellbeing.
"I look forward to following Blackpool's campaign and seeing some very positive results."
