Billy became Ian Holloway's first signing as Blackpool manager following his release from Ipswich Town.
The 23-year-old was a product of the Tractor Boys youth academy and made an instant impression on the side when first making the breakthrough.
Having found chances limited under Jim Magilton, Clarke made several impressive loan moves where he rediscovered his goalscoring form.
Spells at Darlington, Northampton and Brentford ensured that there were plenty of clubs looking for his signature in the summer but it was the lure of staying in the Championship and working with Ian Holloway that attracted Clarke the most.
Sadly, the striker's injury jinx struck again in pre-season when the Irishman suffered a serious cruciate knee ligament injury in pre-season, ruling him out of the entire campaign.
But Clarke's powers of recovery meant he returned to action for the reserves, in their defeat to Wolves in March 2011, before coming through the entire pre-season unscathed ahead of the new Championship campaign.| Sheff Utd | ||||
