The pacey striker was a revelation for the youth and reserve sides last season, before ruptured ankle ligaments and a broken bone in his foot put a premature end to his campaign.
Thankfully the 18-year-old had made a big enough impression to be handed his first professional contract over the summer - despite playing junior football just two years ago.
Barkhuizen completed his first 90 minutes in six months in the 3-1 pre-season defeat to Lancaster City and he followed that up with a sparkling cameo display in the Carling Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
