Reserves Record Comfortable Victory
A cameo appearance from Charlie Adam fired a strong Pool side to victory at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday afternoon. The on loan Rangers man, who asked to play in the game, caught the eye with two well taken goals and the hour long performance will have impressed the watching Tony Parkes and Steve Thomspon.
Despite having seven players with first team experience, Pool fell behind after a frantic opening quarter hour, when former Rochdale winger Kallum Higinbotham caught Mark Halstead napping with a quickly taken free kick.
The goal was perhaps the kick up the backside the Seasiders need and Pool pulled themselves back on level terms when CHARLIE ADAM scored his first goal for the club. A quickly taken Joe Martin throw-in found Stephen McPhee who held his man off to lay into the path of Charlie Adam who fired into the bottom corner.
Robert Grant forced Mark Halstead to tip over with a curling free kick from distance, but it was the Seasiders who finished the half stronger.
The second half was just five minutes old when CHARLIE ADAM fired Pool into the lead with a spectacular goal. The midfielder picked up the ball just inside the Stanley half and in David Beckham style the midfielder curled an impressive finish over Accrington keeper Matthew Ince.
Stephen McPhee squandered a great chance moments later when he spooned over from three yards after Ince had parried a Stuart Green free kick straight into his path
The striker, who was making his first appearance since November, made amends when he made it 3-1 with a well taken finish after Jermaine Wright and Danny Mitchley had linked up with the latter reversing a great pass into his strike partners' path.
In typical Accrington fashion the hosts didn't roll over and on 67 minutes ROBERT GRANT curled a fantastic free kick into the top corner after Pool had conceded a stupid free kick 25 yards from goal.
Fifteen minutes from time DANNY MITCHLEY made it 4-2 when he fired home. The fit again striker latched on to a long punt forward to slot past the keeper.
With ten minutes remaining a tired Stephen McPhee made way for Louis Almond and within two minutes the big striker had drilled a shot on the turn just wide.
