Reserves Held At Home To Wrexham

A strong Pool reserve team containing first team hopefuls, Tommy Jaszczun, Sean Hessey, Steve Davis, Keith Southern, Jamie Burns, Stephen McMahon, Matthew Blinkhorn and Kirk Hilton, were held at home to a youthful, hardworking Wrexham side Wednesday afternoon.
Pool who began proceedings in blustery conditions were not allowed to settle with the Wrexham youngsters snapping at the heels at every opportunity and it was the visitors who had the first clear cut chance of the game, with the impressive Mark Duffy getting the better of Steve Davis before firing straight at the keeper, that was the wake up call the Seasiders needed and on 20 minutes the lively Jamie Burns who was operating in the unfamilar position of right wing played a delightful to Keith Southern who had burst through the Wrexham defence, unfortuantely for Pool Southern couldn't control the ball and the result was a goal kick, but a minute later Southern made amends by firing beyond Whitfield following some good work by Andrew Mangan.
Mark Duffy's pace and trickery was causing the Pool defence problems and on 25 minutes he should have put the visitors back on level terms when he latched on to a long ball over the top of the Pool defence, fortunately Duffy could only fire wide.
Eight minutes later, Steve Davis umarked, headed Kirk Hilton's left wing corner well over whilst Jamie Burns fired at the keeper having cut in from the right flank.

You would have hoped that the second half would see Pool go on and secure the three points but they didn't Jamie Burns and Matthew Blinkhorn both came close, but all too often Pool's final ball and mistimed runs cost Pool dear.
Kirk Hilton who was playing his first came since suffering a hamstring injury back in Janaury, limped out of the action just past the hour, appearing suffer a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
Then 10 minutes from time the inevitable happened, Wrexham snatched an equaliser with Mark Jones seeing his speculative shot deflected by Keith Southern and beyond Lewis Edge.
Andrew Mangan did however have a great chance to seal three points three minutes from time but the young forward could only blaze over with the goal at his mercy.
