Reserves Draw 1-1 With Bury
The Seasiders Reserve team drew their opening home game of the new campaign against Bury at Bloomfield Road Wednesday afternoon. In bright sunshine a strong looking Pool line up including; Sasa Ilic, Gareth Evans, Phil Doughty, Richie Wellens, Dean Gorre and Keigan Parker Pool dominated the first half without opening the scoring. In the second minute Dean Gorre found Simon Wiles wide of the right, the young winger crossed to Andrew Mangan who, with the goal at his mercy, fired high and wide. Eleven minutes later Richie Wellens surging run found Keigan Parker but the young Scot failed to hit the target as did Andrew Mangan a minute later following a neat one two with his strike partner Keigna Parker, but the closet Pool came to an opener first half was 6 minutes before the break when Dean Gorre's free kick crashed back of the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.
The second half saw the visitors enjoy more of the possession with Newby and Richards a constant threat, but it was the Seasiders who opened the scoring. Simon Wiles corner wasn't dealt with by the Bury defence and the ball fell to Jamie Burns who drilled a shot back across goal and although their seemed to be a deflection Burns was credited with his first of the season.
Keigan Parker twice fired at the keeper before the game was turned on it's head with youngster Danny Whittaker being sent off having tripped Newby who was through on goal, the referee had no alternative but to send the youngster off, but fortunately the resulting free kick was straight at the defensive wall.
With Pool down to ten men Bury threw everything forward and shortly before the final whistle former Pool target Jon Newby made the most of some poor Pool defending firing a shot beyond Ilic although the big keeper almost got a hand to it.
