The Seasiders assault on the Pontins League continued Wednesday afternoon when a strong looking line up recorded an emphatic 8-1 win over Carlisle United at Bloomfield Road. All eleven players in the starting line up had featured in and around the first team in recent weeks so it came as no surprise that Pool were in the ascendancy straight from the kick off, Matt Shaw and Danny Coid both fired straight at the keeper in the opening five minutes.

'Pool who had adopted a 3-5-2 formation were forced to do spot of defending on 12 minutes when skipper Gareth Evans intercepted a long ball over the top intended for Craig Farell.

Simon Lynch came close to opening his Pool account on 12 minutes, the striker on loan from Preston fired straight at the keeper following neat work involving Danny Coid and Martin Bullock.

After dominating the majority of the game, Pool took the lead on 22 minutes with Matt Shaw drilling home Martin Bullock's cross from the right. Sic minutes later Martin Bullock saw a shot fly just wide, whilst Lynch saw an effort ricochet back off the bar following some neat work involving Jamie Burns and Richie Wellens.

Three minutes before the break, the impressive Danny Coid came close to doubling the Seasiders lead with a rasping shot that flew just wide.

The interval saw Pool make a change with Sean Paterson replacing Matt Shaw, Paterson's first touch saw the young striker extend Pool's advantage, the young striker latched onto a great ball from Stuart Anderson before calmly slotting beyond Westwood. Paterson's next touch almost saw the young striker hit a second in as many minutes, Jamie Burns threaded a great ball to Paterson, who first time fired straight at Westwood.

Pool went three up on 51 minutes with Simon Lynch netting his first goal in a tangerine shirt, the former Celtic man heading home Martin Bulloc's right wing cross.

Danny Coid almost made it 4-0, again Jamie Burns provided the cross this time Coid saw his header wells saved by Westwood.

The visitors pulled one back on 53 minutes Magno Vieria's volley was parried by Edge to Carlos Roca who fired into the empty net.

Mid-way through the second half Pool made it 4-1 when Sean Paterson round off a great passing move involving Wellens, Anderson and Martin Bullock

Jamie Burns made it 5-1 the young winger firing home a great cross from Simon Lynch. At the other end Lewis Edge produced a great save to deny Farrell.

The Seasiders made it 6-1 on 81 minutes when Sean Paterson completed a hat trick, Jamie Burns and Simon Lynch combined for Martin Bullock, Bullock's first time shot rebounded off the crossbar to Paterson who made no mistake from 5-yards.

The rout was complete on 83 minutes when Danny Coid added a seventh in spectacular fashion, volleying home from the corner of the 18-yard area following another good ball from Jamie Burns.

Simon Lynch compounded Carlisle's misery from the spot three minutes from time, Lynch neatly chipping home the spot kick after Martin Bullock had been upended inside the area.
