The defender had been consistently in the top three for the prize in the last few seasons but finally took home the top honour.

He has proven that there are plenty of talented footballers in the lower leagues just waiting to be given a chance to shine.

Relegated with Mansfield from League Two, the 26-year-old capped off an incredible rise through the divisions with 21 Premier League appearances in 2010-11, despite a lengthy absence with a knee injury.

Signed for a relatively low fee in the summer of 2008, Baptiste has proved to be exceptionally versatile across the back four, with his exceptional performances rewarded with the captain's armband on several occasions in the absence of Barry Ferguson.
