Report: Blackpool 3 Fleetwood Town 1

Seasiders Make It Six Home Wins In Seven

7 December 2019

Blackpool secured a huge three points with a 3-1 win over Fylde coast neighbours Fleetwood Town.

A first Blackpool goal for Liam Feeney, a Sullay Kaikai free-kick and an Armand Gnanduillet header secured the win, with Conor McAleny scoring a late consilation for the visitors.

The Seasiders took the lead with 11 minutes gone thanks to Liam Feeney’s first goal for Blackpool.

A goal mouth scramble ensued in the penalty area after a first-time cross from Sullay Kaikai on the left hand side. The ball bounced around and fell to Feeney, who drilled low into the bottom corner to give Blackpool a deserved lead early on.

Ten minutes later and Feeney had another good opportunity after being put clean through on goal from Armand Gnanduillet. Feeney just couldn’t sort his feet out and his first time effort went over the goal.

With half an hour on the clock, the visitors first real opportunity fell to top scorer, Paddy Madden. The striker was put through on goal with a pass from Wes Burns which beat the impressive Blackpool back-line. With the angle on the goal closing on him, Madden’s effort went past Alnwick but past the far post and out for a goal kick.

The impressive Matty Virtue had a half chance towards the end of the first half thanks to a cross from Liam Feeney from the right hand side, but his poked effort at goal went just wide of the near post.

Half-Time: Blackpool 1 Fleetwood Town 0

It was an electric start to the second half for the Seasiders, with Sullay Kaikai making it 2-0 just 90 seconds after the restart.

A free-kick on the corner of the 18 yard box was given, and Kaikai stood over it steadying himself for what looked like a cross. However, Blackpool’s number ten went alone and his effort went over everyone’s heads – including Billy Crellin’s in goal – and into the corner of the net in front of a packed out North Stand.

Blackpool were really in their stride and Armand Gnanduillet got in on the act on his return from injury. A cross from the left was brilliantly headed past Crellin and in off the far post to make it 3-0 on 65 minutes.

Fleetwood got on the scoresheet with ten minutes remaining thanks to substitute Conor McAleny. The forward won possession from Nathan Delfouneso in the middle of the park and curled in an effort beyond Alnwick’s left side to make it 3-1.

A fantastic victory for the Seasiders who head to Sunderland next weekend.
