Seasiders Beaten On The Road

28 January 2020

Wycombe Wanderers got the better of the Seasiders on Tuesday evening in a 2-1 defeat for Blackpool at Adams Park.

All the damage was done in the opening ten minutes of the match, which was delayed to an 8:50pm kick-off after an air ambulance was called for a supporter.

Blackpool were a goal down within five minutes. Debutant Jordan Thorniley and Ollie Turton struggled to sort their feet out in defence and Nick Freeman pounced on the defensive error to give the hosts an early lead.

Things went from bad to worse just three minutes later as the Seasiders conceded another disappointing goal. Wycombe’s Alex Samuel swooped around Ben Heneghan, despite the defender’s best efforts, and slotted past Mark Howard to make it 2-0 to the hosts on eight minutes.

Blackpool struggled to get any sort of rhythm at Adams Park across the first 45 minutes. Marc Bola fed in a lovely ball on the left hand side with 30 minutes on the clock, but no one was there to head it home.

The first half died out in the final few minutes and the hosts took a deserved 2-0 lead into the interval.

Blackpool began the second half with added impetus and could have halved the deficit early on. Jordan Thorniley did well with the ball at his feet on the right hand side, weaved his way into the penalty area and fed a ball into the six yard area but Wycombe’s Anthony Stewart turned it behind.

Five minutes later, Gary Madine tried his luck from range. A great piece of control with his chest teed him up to shave an effort, but he just put it wide.

With five minutes remaining, Blackpool got on the scoresheet through debutant Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. A shot from distance from the youngster found it's way into the back of the net, despite David Stockdale getting a hand to it, sparking belief of a late reprieve for the Seasiders.

It wasn't meant to be, however, and Blackpool slipped to another defeat on the road.
