Seasiders Take A Point In Critchley

7 March 2020

Blackpool and Fleetwood Town shared the spoils at Highbury, following an entertaining 0-0 draw.

The majority of Blackpool's chances came in the first half, whilst Fleetwood impressed in the second 45 minutes.

With four minutes on the clock, Matty Virtue tested Alex Cairns in the Fleetwood goal with a curling effort but the shot lacked power and the goalkeeper easily held.

Blackpool were impressing in the early stages, keeping possession well but more importantly using it to their advantage. A long ball forward from Chris Maxwell was flicked on by Gary Madine to Nathan Delfouneso who then laid it off to the oncoming Connor Ronan. The on-loan Wolves man tried his luck with a dipping half volley, but the effort went just over Cairns’ goal.

With half an hour gone, Nathan Delfouneso had a great chance to find the back of the net. A fantastic ball from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to the far side found Calum Macdonald. He played the pass to Delfouneso who was unmarked in the penalty area, but his effort went over Cairns and the goal.

Fleetwood rarely threatened in the first half, with the score goalless at the interval.

Half Time: Fleetwood Town 0 Blackpool 0

Blackpool were forced into an early change within 60 seconds of the restart after Gary Madine appeared to hurt his neck. Joe Nuttall replaced him.

The hosts had a good half chance ten minutes into the second half. Lewie Coyle fed a ball in from the right hand side, with Paddy Madden’s header sailing over the bar.

With ten minutes to go, Joe Nuttall had a golden opportunity to find the back of the net with a header from a corner, but the ball appeared to bounce off his shoulder and out for a goal kick.

Blackpool will kick themselves for not taking the chances in the first half, but it was ultimately a good point and a clean sheet on the road in Neil Critchley's first match in charge.
