Blackpool made it 16 league games without defeat in a grueling and hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sunderland.
A Luke Garbutt strike on the hour mark was enough to secure the win, which opens up a five point cushion for the Seasiders in the play-off spots.
Blackpool started brightly, and were on the front foot from the off. Jerry Yates picked up the ball on the far left on 15 minutes, and cut inside onto his right foot. The frontman teed a shot up and curled on towards goal, but it was easily held by Lee Burge.
Ellis Simms then had an effort go over the bar ten minutes later, after Demetri Mitchell did well to win the ball back in a dangerous position. The shot, however, went over Burge’s goal.
At the other end, Aiden McGeady floated a good ball into the box for Sunderland looking for Aiden O’Brien, but Luke Garbutt was there to sweep up at the last minute, and clear away the danger.
Ollie Turton played a good cross in with his left foot in the final minutes of the first half, but no one was there to collect, and Burge easily able to claim the cross before the referee blew his whistle for half-time.

The Seasiders caught Sunderland on the break early in the second half, with a three v two situation. Jerry Yates played the ball wide to Ollie Turton, who cut back and fed a cross in, but it went over everyone and out for a throw in.
Just before the hour mark, Sunderland has the best opportunity of the game. Aiden McGeady cut inside onto his right foot, round Ollie Turton and curled an effort at goal. The ball evaded the diving Maxwell and smacked off the inside of the post and bounced clear.
Just 60 seconds later, the Seasiders were in front. Sullay Kaikai won the ball on the left hand side, and cut the ball short to Luke Garbutt. Garbutt took a touch and shot at goal, with the ball bouncing off a man and diverting past Lee Burge to give Blackpool the lead.
Sunderland were pushing for an equaliser and Josh Scowen forced Chris Maxwell into a good save, after the midfielder smashed a first time effort at goal. The shot was well-palmed away from Maxwell though, with the ball eventually cleared.
Blackpool managed to hold on for a crucial three points, with the Seasiders travelling to Rochdale on Tuesday night.
