Report: Blackpool 0 Oxford United 0

12 December 2020

Blackpool and Oxford shared the points in a goalless draw at Bloomfield Road, where the Seasiders made it five consecutive clean sheets.

In a game of few chances, CJ Hamilton was the star of the show, hitting the woodwork in either half, but in truth it was a game with few opportunties.

Oxford's James Henry played a good cross in from the right on 20 minutes to Marcus McGuane, but the Oxford man placed his first-time effort high into the North Stand.

At the other end five minutes before the end of the first half, CJ Hamilton did brilliantly to beat Joel Ruffels down the right and feed in a great ball to Sullay Kaikai, but the Seasiders wide man slipped at the vital moment before he could get a connection to the ball.

Hamilton then had a stunning effort himself denied by the woodwork moments later. A thrown-in from Gabriel was controlled and laid off by Gary Madine to Hamilton, who smashed a first-time strike from outside of the box towards the goal. The effort smacked against the near post and bounced clear.

That opportunity was the closest either side came to a goal in the first 45 minutes, with the first half finishing goalless.

Blackpool were keeping vast amounts of possession throughout the game, but couldn’t find that final pass to cut through the Oxford defence.

CJ Hamilton, who hit the post with an effort in the first half, hit the woodwork again in the second with a powerful effort from distance. The long-range strike took a deflection off an Oxford defender before rattling against the crossbar and bouncing clear.

With time running out, Oxford caught Blackpool out at the back, with Olamide Shodipo able to cut inside and shoot at goal with his effort well held by Chris Maxwell.

Maxwell was called into action again right at the death, forcing a wonderful save to deny Oxford a late winner after a header was heading straight at goal. Maxwell dived brilliantly to his left to tip it away to safety, and ensure the spoils were shared.
