Report: Fleetwood Town 0 Blackpool 1

5 December 2020

Gary Madine's first half goal was enough for the Seasiders to claim all three points at Fleetwood Town.

Madine's fifth goal of the season was all the difference, as Blackpool made it eight wins in the last nine games.

It was an end-to-end opening 15 minutes, with both sides having a succession of corner kicks to contest with. Chris Maxwell was called into action early on, to punch away a dangerous corner kick before it met the head of Callum Connolly.

Blackpool, however, took the lead on 16 minutes through Gary Madine. A free-kick was awarded by the byline after Danny Andrew took out CJ Hamilton. Sullay Kaikai whipped in a wonderful free-kick to Gary Madine at the back post, who had the time and space to head home with real precision.

It was proving a hard-fought battle, with strong challenges in the middle of the park from both sides to win possession. The Seasiders were standing resolute at the back and weren’t letting anything fall for the hosts. Fleetwood did, however, have the ball in the back of Chris Maxwell’s net in the final moments of the first half after Wes Burns flicked it in. Thankfully, the referee gave offside, and Blackpool went into the break a goal up.

Half time: Fleetwood Town 0 Blackpool 1

Fleetwood made a half-time change, bringing on Glenn Whelan for Wes Burns.

The hosts had an opportunity in the opening five minutes, after a Marvin Ekpiteta slip gave Barrie McKay an opportunity to get to the byline and find a cross, but no ones was there in the box to meet the cross.

As the clock was winding down, Sullay Kaikai had a good effort take a slight deflection and go out for a corner kick, after cutting inside well onto his right foot.

Some resolute defending was key to the victory, as Blackpool were able to continue their impressive form and see out another victory.
