Blackpool suffered their first defeat in a month, falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat at Doncaster Rovers.
The hosts completed a second half comeback, after the Seasiders were 2-0 up at the break, courtesy of goals from Jerry Yates and CJ Hamilton.
Cameron John, Reece James and Ben Whiteman completed a second half comeback for Doncaster.
Blackpool took the lead within the opening ten minutes. A fantastic ball into the box from CJ Hamilton caused grief for the Doncaster defenders. As Gary Madine went to claim the ball, he was bundled to the ground, and up stepped Jerry Yates to fire home the penalty to give the Seasiders an early lead from the penalty spot.
Blackpool continued to create the better of the chances in the opening 45 minutes, as Daniel Grétarsson had a header at goal from a cross go just over the bar.
The hosts were struggling to cope with the blistering pace of CJ Hamilton throughout, and were caught napping at the back five minutes from the break. Doncaster’s high line left Kaikai clean through on goal after a wonderful one-two with Jerry Yates. With Lumley in the Doncaster goal closing down, Kaikai was brought down, but the ball fell kindly to CJ Hamilton, who was able to fire into an empty net with a first-time effort.
Half time: Doncaster Rovers 0 Blackpool 2
The Seasiders two goal lead didn’t last long in the second half, with Doncaster pulling a goal back within three minutes of the restart. A headed clearance found it’s way to Cameron John, who was able to smash the ball past a host of Blackpool defenders and Chris Maxwell into the bottom corner.
Doncaster were in the ascendency and found the crucial equaliser with just 52 minutes on the clock. A ball into the box split the Blackpool defence and was acrobatically flicked beyond Maxwell by Reece James to even it out at 2-2.
The hosts were putting the Blackpool defenders under increasing pressure throughout the second half and had plenty of half chances to claim the crucial third goal. They were given the chance 15 minutes from time, as Marvin Ekpiteta fouled a Okenabirhie in the penalty area to give Doncaster a penalty. Ben Whiteman took the penalty and scored, sending Maxwell the wrong way to give Doncaster the lead.
Blackpool had a late penalty claim for handball waived away by the referee, and as such found themselves on the wrong end of a five goal soreline.
