Defender Aims To Back Up Millwall Victory
Neal Eardley is calling on himself and his Blackpool team-mates to kick on from Saturday's win and continue their positive start to the new league season.
The Welsh right-back is hoping the momentum gained from the victory over Millwall will put the Seasiders in good stead as they prepare to take on Leeds United on Tuesday.
“Obviously Leeds have had a good win at the weekend against Wolves, so they’re going to be bang up for it. We know what they’ve got to offer and it’s going to be a tough game but if we do what we did on Saturday against Millwall, hopefully that’ll be good enough for us,” he said.
“It was a very good team performance, I thought all the lads did really well. I think to go to Millwall away first game of the season, get three points and put in the performance that we did was just what we needed going into tomorrow’s game.”
Having not started either of the last two seasons in the Blackpool first eleven, the 23-year-old is relishing being involved at the beginning of this campaign.
“I just want to be involved as much as I can and I just want to bring everything I can to the team. Hopefully I can help them and they’ll help me as a player. I want to get as many games under my belt as possible and go from there really.”
Tuesday night’s fixture will be Blackpool’s first at Bloomfield Road since defeat to Morecambe in the Capital One Cup earlier this month, and Eardley is expecting a much improved performance in front of the club’s home fans.
“Unfortunately against Morecambe it was just one of those days, things didn’t really go for us,” he said. “We learnt from it and proved that we’ve taken the positives out of that game. The performance we put in on Saturday was brilliant. We’re going to take that into Tuesday and hopefully we can put a performance on for ourselves, the fans and everybody at the club.”
