Ince: I'm Over The Moon

29 August 2012

Winger Delighted With Under-21 Call-Up

Tom Ince is feeling 'over the moon' following news of his call-up to the England Under-21 setup.

The winger has been rewarded for a fine start to the season with a place in Stuart Pearce's squad for the forthcoming European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Norway.

Having previously made clear his ambitions to represent his country, the 20-year-old is delighted to have an opportunity to impress on the international stage.

"On an individual basis, to score four and get myself some assists shows that it's been noted and I'm over the moon to be selected for a call-up," he said. "There are some very talented players in that team, a lot of players that play at a high level in the Premier League at some of the top clubs. It's nice to be mixing it with them.

"It's a great feeling and it's nice to be called up. I've really aimed for the best, and hopefully I can take the same performances for my club onto the international stage.

"I've played in a couple of age groups for England - Under-17 and Under-19 - and that's always nice for a youngster coming through, but the Under-21s is one step away from the full team. I was hoping that it would come for me soon and I'm delighted that it has. It's come together nicely following a good few months for me, as well as the back end of last season."

The manager is a former England team-mate of his father, yet working with him will be a new experience for Blackpool's number 11.

"I think I've met him briefly once or twice. He took Team GB far in the Olympics and he's been the Under-21s manager for quite a while, with a lot of players like Tom Cleverley, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Butland moving up to the first-team. It's a first time call-up but it's a chance for me to impress and have a feel of that international stage," he added.

The qualifier against Azerbaijan takes place in Baku on Thursday 6 September, with the game against Norway on Monday 10 September to be played at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium.

Tickets for the latter, which kicks-off at 7pm, are priced at £10 for Adults and £5 for Children. Call 01246 488232 or email to purchase.
