Osbourne Delighted With League Debut

20 August 2012

Midfielder Pleased Following Millwall Performance

New-signing Isaiah Osbourne has expressed his delight after making his first league start for the club in the 2-0 win over Millwall on Saturday.

The midfielder, who joined from Hibernian in July, played the full 90 minutes as the Seasiders recorded a perfect start to the new campaign.

“I couldn’t ask for a better performance, I’m buzzing and happy to go back home with three points,” he said.

“I think the second goal basically killed them because at the time they were attacking us, but after the second goal that was basically it.”

Osbourne was one of three changes to the side that lost to Morecambe in the Capital One Cup, and the 24-year-old admitted he didn’t have much time to prepare for his first appearance.

“I only found out I was playing at about quarter to one,” he said. “I prefer to know on the day rather than before anyway. A lot of players like to think about the game beforehand, I don’t really I just go out and play.

The former Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest man was deployed alongside Barry Ferguson in the centre of midfield for the trip to The New Den, and he left satisfied in how he showcased his abilities on debut.

“I pick up the pieces. I like to think that I know the game and I can cover holes and pick up little through balls, and when I get on the ball, I run with it.

“I’m happy to play wherever the manager wants me to play. If he tells me to go in front of the back four and do a job I’ll do a job.

“I guess it’s tough for places in the team, so for me to get selected, I’m delighted.”

Osbourne, who has been capped at Under 16 level for England, is hoping to retain his place for Tuesday’s fixture against Leeds United, in what he is anticipating will be another difficult game.

“I think Leeds will do well this season, they’ve picked up a few players. The boys are just looking forward to it to be honest.”
