Midfielder Delighted With Testimonial
Keith Southern hailed a ‘fantastic day’ as he celebrated 10 years in tangerine with a testimonial victory over former club Everton.
The midfielder, who recently agreed a move to Huddersfield, returned to Bloomfield Road for a fitting finale and was delighted with the overall outcome.
“To come back for a testimonial game was surreal but it was a fantastic day all round and the lads won the game so I’m really pleased with that. It was a good send-off,” he said.
“I think we had just over 9,000 so that’s a very good turnout because we’re slap-bang in the middle of the summer holidays. I’m delighted and I just want to say thank-you to everybody that turned up.”
The 31-year-old leaves behind plenty of memories and admits that the transition in his life will take some getting used to.
“It will take a few weeks for me to get my head round it because I’ve met some of the best people I’ll ever meet in my life. I still find myself ringing them up on the way home from training in Huddersfield every day, or I did last week anyway.
“This is a new chapter in my life, it’s a new chapter in Blackpool’s future and I’m leaving on fantastic terms. What we’ve all been through is something I could only have dreamed of 10 years ago and I’m just happy to leave on such a high note,” he added.
